ATLANTA- Recently Erica Shaw found out that the phrase “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” can be true in more ways than one. Ms. Shaw, a resident of Albany, played the Georgia Lottery instant game $25,000 Diamonds and won the $25,000 top prize. Ms. Shaw, who is employed at Zaxby’s, spent some time examining the ticket before she could believe that it was a winner. “I kept counting it to make sure it was right,” Ms. Shaw describes. Ms. Shaw plans to use her winnings to buy a car. She also plans to save for her future. The winning ticket was purchased at Red’s Liquors located at 170 E. Main St. in Colquitt. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
