Refrigeration repairman ices fiery $500K lottery prize

Thursday, July 3, 2014

ATLANTA – A Columbus man is happy with a fiery half-million dollar Georgia Lottery prize, making for a cool summer. Roy Carter, 47, won a $500,000 top prize playing the instant game Jumbo Jumbo Bucks.

“I can’t believe it,” Carter exclaimed upon claiming his prize.

An air conditioning and refrigeration repairman, the lucky winner was working when he stopped at Money Back #0009, 3021 Macon Road in Columbus, to purchase a soda along with his instant ticket.

“I saw the (Instant Ticket Vending) machine and put my money in it,” he said. “I went to my truck, and there it was! It still hasn’t sunk in.”

Excited over his windfall, Carter anticipates paying off bills.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
