ATLANTA – Danny Brooks, a maintenance supervisor, has won a grand Georgia Lottery prize on New Year's Eve. Brooks, 59, won a $1 million top prize playing the instant game Red Hot Millions. "I feel good," he exclaimed. According to Brooks, he was redeeming a free ticket when he received the lucky winner. The grandfather of three went to BP Food Mart, 67 Market Square Road in Newnan, and scratched it outside of the store. "It was dark, so I told my wife that I thought I may have won something," he recalled. "She looked at the ticket and replied, 'I think we won $1 million.' " Brooks and his wife, Vickie, have two adult children and are expecting a fourth grandchild later this year. The couple have no immediate plans for their lottery win. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
