ATLANTA- Retiree John Johnson spent years lifting boxes and cargo as a forklift operator for Georgia-Pacific. Now Mr. Johnson has experience lifting a Georgia Lottery check. He played Double Hot Cash, a Georgia Lottery instant game, and won the game’s $30,000 top prize. The Savannah resident scratched the ticket while he was in the store and had it verified by a clerk. Mr. Johnson is still deciding what he will do with his winnings. Mr. Johnson, 77, purchased his ticket at Joe’s Package Shop. The store is located at 2501 W. Bay St. in Savannah. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
