ATLANTA – Watkinsville resident Jimmy Harrell and his wife, Lisa, sat down on Sept. 16 to watch the Mega Millions drawing together. It turned out to be a lucky day when Mr. Harrell matched the first five winning numbers and won $250,000.
The winning numbers for the Sept. 16 Mega Millions drawing were: 5-16-41-46-50 and the Gold Mega Ball was 1.
“We were both watching the drawing and I said, ‘I just hit five,’” Mr. Harrell explained.
The 38-year-old plans to use his winnings to pay bills, buy a new car and make some investments.
Mr. Harrell says that when it comes to playing the lottery, anything is possible. “I’m a believer.”
As with other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
