ATLANTA – Thomas Cooper of Duluth has always considered himself lucky, but now he’s mega lucky. Mr. Cooper matched the first five winning numbers in Friday’s (9/5) Mega Millions drawing and won $175,000.
Mr. Cooper purchased his Quik Pik ticket at Stop N Save Food Mart, 4601 Satellite Blvd., Duluth. The winning numbers for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing were: 7-9-28-41-42 and the Gold Mega Ball was 19.
According to Mr. Cooper, his first priority as a Mega Millions winner is to pay off bills. He’s also considering a trip and says that his wife wants new carpet.
Mr. Cooper and his wife, Nell, have two grown sons. “I’m lucky to have the good family that I have and good health,” he shares.
As a retiree, Mr. Cooper, 75, enjoys yard work and helping out with his son’s business. Mr. Cooper plans to continue playing Georgia Lottery games. He says, “Money for education. It’s worth it!”
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
