Fayette County Woman Wins Georgia Lottery Trip: From Peachtree City to the Big Apple!

Thursday, December 1, 2005

ATLANTA – A Peachtree City resident will be taking a bite of the Big Apple thanks to a King Kong-sized Georgia Lottery win. Wendy Newton, 46, was randomly selected to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York City for the Dec. 5 red carpet world premiere of the movie King Kong. The promotion was held in conjunction with the new Georgia Lottery instant game King Kong.

Mrs. Newton won her exciting trip during the University of Georgia vs. Georgia Tech football game on Saturday (Nov. 26). Georgia Lottery Corporation President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco was joined on the field by Georgia Tech mascot Buzz, who randomly selected Mrs. Newton as the lucky winner.

“It’s fantastic!” exclaims Mrs. Newton, who plans to take the trip with her husband Scott.

Mr. and Mrs. Newton have two sons – Chad, 21, and Justin, 18 – who both received HOPE scholarships. “I think the HOPE scholarship is a great thing,” Mrs. Newton shares.

King Kong is a new instant game with King Kong-sized prizes including a $500,000 top prize. The Georgia Lottery celebrated the launch of King Kong at the Georgia Dome during halftime of a recent Atlanta Falcons game. The Georgia Lottery unveiled the “World’s Largest Lottery Ticket” during the Falcons game and the Georgia/Georgia Tech game, setting a world record. The feat has been submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.

In conjunction with the instant game King Kong, the Georgia Lottery is conducting the exciting statewide promotion Where’s Kong starting Dec. 14.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
