ATLANTA – A LaGrange man is celebrating a lifetime lottery win. Marion Williams played the Georgia Lottery instant game Win for Life and won the $1,000 a Week for Life top prize with a $1 million guaranteed minimum payout.
Racetrac #0500, located at 1517 Lafayette Pkwy. in LaGrange, sold the winning ticket.
Mr. Williams scratched the lucky ticket at home. “I had to look at it several times,” he says. “Then I went upstairs and showed my wife.”
Mr. Williams, 70, is retired from Tredegar Film Products, where he worked as an engineer. He and his wife, Carol, have four children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
According to Mr. Williams, he and his wife plan to save their winnings and “just put it in our retirement fund.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
