Lawrenceville Man Strikes Gold in Grocery Store with $2.5 Million Lottery Win

Sunday, April 30, 2006

ATLANTA – A Lawrenceville man went shopping for groceries and struck gold. Daniel Snoke played the Georgia Lottery instant game $300 Million Gold Rush and won the game's $2.5 MILLION top prize. This is the highest instant game top prize in Georgia Lottery history.

Publix Super Market #0505, located at 1625 Pleasant Hill Rd. in Duluth, sold the lucky ticket.

According to Mr. Snoke, he scratched the ticket in the store. "I turned to a store employee and said, 'Will you look at this?' She looked at it and got hysterical," he shares. "Everybody in customer service couldn't believe it. Their jaws all dropped."

Mr. Snoke never did get his groceries. "I went in there to do some shopping and just forgot all about that. I was so excited that I just left."

Mr. Snoke works as a manager at a manufacturing company. He turned 50 in April and says that his win is a belated birthday gift.

According to Mr. Snoke, he will take some time to decide how he will spend his winnings. "It hasn't sunk in yet."

$300 Million Gold Rush tickets went on sale statewide on Jan. 31. $300 Million Gold Rush is a $10 game with 30 millionaires and the highest instant game top prize in Georgia history. The game offers over $304 million in total cash prizes including 10 top prizes of $2.5 MILLION, 20 $1 MILLION prizes, more than 19,600 prizes from $1,000 to $50,000, and over 498,000 prizes from $100 to $500.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
