Gainesville Man Spooks Up Fantasy 5 Win on Halloween Eve

Thursday, October 30, 2003

ATLANTA – It was not a trick but a treat. John Cooper of Gainesville won $302,740 in Thursday’s (10/30) Fantasy 5 drawing.

Mr. Cooper was watching the Fantasy 5 drawing when he learned that he was a top prize winner. "I got all goofy for a couple hours," Mr. Cooper exclaims. "I stayed up all night."

When he finally did go to bed, Mr. Cooper put the winning ticket in his wallet and placed it under his pillow. "That way I knew it wasn’t going anywhere," he says.

The winning numbers for Thursday’s Fantasy 5 drawing were: 25, 26, 27, 28, 39. Mr. Cooper purchased his Quik Pik ticket at Petrofast Food #0006, located at 2415-A Old Cornelia Hwy. in Gainesville.

Before claiming his prize at Georgia Lottery headquarters this morning (10/31), Mr. Cooper stopped by the store where he purchased the ticket to share the news and to confirm his win. "I wanted to make sure," shares Mr. Cooper.

Mr. Cooper, 50, works as an inspector of airplane propeller parts. He plans to pay bills with his winnings and says that he may buy a race truck.

Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold, the retailers selling the top prize winning tickets will share the retailer incentive bonus. Since the top prize for Thursday’s drawing rolled six times with two winners sharing the top prize, Petrofast Food will receive a $7,000 retailer incentive bonus.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
