TLANTA – Thomas Himes Sr. played the Georgia Lottery instant game Win for Life and won $1,000 a week for life with a $1 million guaranteed minimum payout. Himes, a resident of Grove City, Ohio, has been on a long-term work assignment in Cartersville since 2005. After his lifetime lottery win, he plans to make Georgia his permanent home.
“I’m already looking for a house,” Himes says. “Since I won it here, I’m going to stay here.”
Lee’s Grocery, located at 5634 Third Army Rd. S.E. in Acworth, sold the lucky top prize ticket.
According to Himes, he scratched his winning ticket at home. “I dropped everything and ran up the road to my neighbor’s house for confirmation.”
Himes, a 52-year-old millwright, plans to pay bills and buy a new car for his son. He says his $52,000 a year for life lottery win will help with his retirement.
“I’ve won something that’s going to help me for the rest of my life,” he shares.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
