ATLANTA – Santa Claus is coming to town early for a Canton woman. Shirley Wells played the Georgia Lottery instant game Bah Humbucks and won one of the game's $225,000 top prizes.
"This is the best Christmas ever! Ever! Ever!" Wells exclaimed. "Can you ask for a better Christmas present?"
Quiktrip #0781, located at 4865 Old Highway 5 in Woodstock, sold the lucky ticket. Wells scratched her ticket in the store's parking lot.
"I went back in the store and told the clerk that I won. Everyone in the store was congratulating me," Wells said. "I still can't get over it."
Wells, 58, and her husband, Jerry, have three grown children and three grandchildren. According to Wells, she will use her winnings to pay off her house and purchase a new car.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
