ATLANTA – A recently retired Opelika, Ala. resident is the winner of a Fantasy 5 draw worth $541,109.
Billy Edwards, 60, matched all five winning numbers in the Jan. 27 Fantasy 5 drawing and won the top prize.
Winning numbers from the Jan. 27 drawing were: 05-07-09-28-30.
JR Food Mart, 1616 Whitesville Road, in LaGrange sold the winning ticket.
Edwards said he picked the lucky numbers from the birthdays of family members.
He saw the winning numbers while looking through a local newspaper.
"At first I walked out into the yard to see if I was dreaming," said the retired mill operator. "I got a little happy."
With his winnings, Edwards said he plans to pay bills and invest for the family's future. Edwards has three children and five grandchildren.
"I may get a new car," he said. "With me retired, it couldn't have happened at a better time."
Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold, the retailers selling the top prize winning tickets will share the bonus. JR Food Mart will receive a $12,000 retailer incentive bonus.
