Rome resident wins $25,000 early birthday gift

Thursday, February 8, 2007

ATLANTA – Bingo! Billy Jackson of Rome is celebrating his birthday a week early after winning a $25,000 top prize on the Georgia Lottery instant game Bingo.

"It's a very good birthday gift," said Jackson, who will turn 25 on Feb. 17.

Rhonda’s Shopette #1, located at 1203 Cave Spring Rd. in Rome, sold the winning ticket. Jackson, a machine operator, scratched the ticket as he was leaving work.

"I just started shaking," he said. "I really couldn't say anything."

According to Jackson, he plans to save and invest for his two children, ages 3 and 1.

"I'm also going to buy a new bed for my father," Jackson shared.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
