ATLANTA – An Albany truck driver is hauling in a $177,000 Georgia Lottery win. Otis Lavant played the instant game Ruby Red 7's and won one of the game's $177,000 top prizes.
"This feels really good," Lavant exclaimed while claiming his prize Tuesday at the Georgia Lottery's Thomasville District Office.
Food Mart, located at 2700 Riverside Dr. in Macon, sold the winning ticket. Lavant, 27, was on a business assignment in Macon when he purchased the ticket Monday night.
"I told my co-workers, and they were jumping and hollering more than I was," Lavant said. "I was so excited that I couldn't even fall asleep. I was awake all night."
Lavant, a father of three, plans to pay off his home and purchase a new vehicle.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
