ATLANTA – Katie Pritchard of Grayson caught a lucky break when her husband bought a Georgia's $500 Million Club instant game ticket for Valentine's Day.
The Georgia Lottery ticket was worth an amorous $1 million.
"There isn't anything better that I could have than James," said Pritchard, 44. "Winning this money is like putting the candle on our cake."
Shop N Go, 2693 Highway 20 in Grayson, sold the lucky ticket.
Pritchard and her husband, James Gillespie, are excited about their winnings.
"We are two of the most fortunate individuals to have each other," said Pritchard, a respiratory therapist for a home care company. "We're lucky in life, and winning this money makes it that much better."
The mother of four said she plans to save for the couple's retirement.
"Winning this money will allow great things for us," she said. "We are definitely appreciative."
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
