ATLANTA – Just a month after tying the knot, a Whitesburg man has hitched a $5,000 Georgia Lottery win. Timothy Anderson was randomly selected in the first weekly drawing for Georgia’s Millionaire Club on Friday.
“I’m 20 and just got married, so this will help a lot,” exclaimed Anderson, who married his wife, Nicole, in January.
Georgia’s Millionaire Club weekly drawings are held in conjunction with the instant game Georgia’s $500 Million Club. Each weekly Georgia’s Millionaire Club winner will receive $5,000 and become a finalist in the Extra Chance $10 Million Grand Prize Drawing.
Players can mail in a non-winning Georgia’s $500 Million Club ticket to enter the Georgia’s Millionaire Club drawings. Complete the back of the ticket, add a stamp, and mail the ticket as a postcard. The Georgia Lottery will conduct a weekly drawing from all entries received that week. Weekly drawings will be broadcast each Friday as a part of the Cash 3 evening drawings.
Anderson was at a restaurant Friday evening when he began receiving telephone calls from family and friends who watched the drawing.
“I was eating dinner and started getting a lot of phone calls from people telling me I won,” Anderson said. “I thought they were joking at first.”
According to Anderson, he will use his winnings to pay bills and further his education. He plans to attend West Central Technical College in Carrollton.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
