ATLANTA – For a Talmo woman, rubies are a girl's best friend. Dora Cruz played the Georgia Lottery instant game Ruby Red 7's and won a $177,000 top prize.
"I am so happy and excited," said Cruz, 33. "I am very lucky."
North Jackson Food Mart, located at 994 Old Gainesville Hwy. in Pendergrass, sold the winning ticket.
Cruz and her husband, Jose, have two sons and a daughter. According to Cruz, she plans to save most of her winnings and will do something special for her children.
Cruz also plans to take a vacation.
"I don't know where yet, but maybe Florida," she said.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
