ATLANTA – A Gillsville woman played the Georgia Lottery instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic and won a jumbo prize. Mary Denise Porter won one of the game's $50,000 top prizes.
Lula Food Mart, located at 2448 Highway 51 S. in Lula, sold the winning ticket. Porter scratched the ticket in her car while in the store’s parking lot.
"I felt like I was going to pass out," Porter said laughing. "I saw the comma and all those zeros. I just sat there for 10 minutes."
Porter and her husband, Rodney, own a telecommunications company. They have three daughters, ages 17, 13 and 12.
According to Porter, she will use her winnings to pay bills and travel with her family.
"My oldest daughter has been pitching a fit for a new car, so I'm thinking about it," she added.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
