ATLANTA – A resident of Ellenwood has collected a $5,000 Georgia Lottery prize. James Hill Sr., 71, was randomly selected in the Georgia’s Millionaire Club weekly drawing held Feb. 23.
The weekly drawings are held in conjunction with the instant game Georgia’s $500 Million Club. Each weekly Georgia’s $500 Million Club winner will receive $5,000 and become a finalist in the Extra Chance $10 Million Grand Prize Drawing.
"I think I’m the luckiest guy I’ve ever seen," Hill said of himself. "I’ve won a lot of things. I feel like I have a chance to win the grand prize."
In 2005, Hill won $50,000 playing the lottery’s instant game $100 Million Cash Spectacular. His wife, Phyllis, won $1,000 playing Georgia’s $500 Million Club earlier this month.
The couple were out at a restaurant at the time of the drawing, said Hill, who delivers newspapers. When he arrived at work later that night, a co-worker told him that his name was selected during the televised drawing. Hill said he plans to take his wife to Las Vegas on vacation.
Players can mail in a non-winning Georgia’s $500 Million Club ticket to enter the Georgia’s Millionaire Club drawings. Complete the back of the ticket, add a stamp, and mail the ticket as a postcard. The Georgia Lottery will conduct a weekly drawing from all entries received that week. Weekly drawings will be broadcast each Friday as a part of the Cash 3 evening drawings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
