ATLANTA – A Whigham nurse is the first to win $350,000 on the new Georgia Lottery instant game Red Hot Numbers. Rhonda Taylor was at a red light when she scratched her lucky ticket. When the light turned green, she was driving off as a red hot winner.
"I couldn't believe it," Taylor said. "I called my husband and said, 'Meet me at the house. I think we just won $350,000.' "
When Taylor arrived home, she and her husband, Jack, began to celebrate.
"We both just started hollering," Taylor recalled.
Red Hot Numbers tickets went on sale Tuesday. Taylor claimed her top prize Thursday at the Georgia Lottery's Thomasville District Office.
Taylor purchased her winning ticket at L & G Food Mart #0004, located at 1250 U.S. Highway 84 E. in Cairo.
Taylor, 40, is a registered nurse and works as a nurse recruiter. She is the mother of two daughters, ages 15 and 12.
According to Taylor, she plans to pay bills and save for her children's education.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
