ATLANTA – A Kennesaw hair stylist is stunned after winning a $5 million top prize playing Georgia’s $500 Million Club, a Georgia Lottery instant game. Teresa Mongeau, 54, is a barber instructor at Roffler-Moler Hairstyling College in Marietta.
She purchased her winning ticket at QuikTrip #0753, 2761 Cobb Parkway, in Kennesaw while getting gas. She decided to buy the ticket because it was the last on the roll. She was amazed at what she’d found.
“I was in disbelief, and I was just trying to absorb what was going on,” she said. “I could hardly talk. I sat in my car for about 15 minutes.”
Mongeau has two adult daughters: Kimberly, 27, and Kelly, 25. With her winnings she looks forward to helping other people.
“I never would have guessed in five million years,” she said. “It’s amazing.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
