ATLANTA – A Waycross woman is celebrating a $5,000 Georgia Lottery win. Dinell Reed was randomly selected in the Georgia's Millionaire Club weekly drawing held March 9. She claimed her prize Tuesday at the Georgia Lottery Corporation's Savannah District Office.
"I was on my way out the door when the phone rang," said Reed, 62. "My sister and nephew called me and told me they heard my name called in the drawing."
According to Reed, she was shocked to hear the news.
"I screamed because I couldn't believe it. I thought they were kidding."
Reed is married with five children and nine grandchildren. She said she’s still deciding how to spend her winnings.
"I'm just now starting to think about it," she shared.
Georgia's Millionaire Club weekly drawings are held in conjunction with the instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club. Each weekly Georgia's Millionaire Club winner will receive $5,000 and become a finalist in the Extra Chance $10 Million Grand Prize Drawing.
Players can mail in a non-winning Georgia's $500 Million Club ticket to enter the Georgia's Millionaire Club drawings. Complete the back of the ticket, add a stamp, and mail the ticket as a postcard. The Georgia Lottery will conduct a weekly drawing from all entries received that week. Weekly drawings will be broadcast each Friday as a part of the Cash 3 evening drawings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
