Pre-k dad wins $50,000

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

ATLANTA – A Lawrenceville resident, whose two daughters attended lottery-funded Pre-k, has once again reaped the benefits of the Georgia Lottery. Roger Wenner played the instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club and won $50,000.

Shell Quick Mart, located at 4785 Sugarloaf Pkwy. in Lawrenceville, sold the lucky ticket.

"I thought I was going to fall over," said Wenner, whose wife, Sabrina, scratched the ticket in the store. "I thought I was going to have to pick my wife up off the floor."

Wenner, 51, works as a self-employed soda fountain systems installer. He said he will use his lottery winnings to "pay bills and put the rest in savings."

According to Wenner, he appreciates the Georgia Lottery's contributions to HOPE and Pre-k.

"I think it's the most awesome thing in the world," he shared. "When I purchase a lottery ticket, I'm helping students get into school."

Georgia's Millionaire Club weekly drawings are held in conjunction with the instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club. Each weekly Georgia's Millionaire Club winner will receive $5,000 and become a finalist in the Extra Chance $10 Million Grand Prize Drawing.

Players can mail in a non-winning Georgia's $500 Million Club ticket to enter the Georgia's Millionaire Club drawings. Complete the back of the ticket, add a stamp, and mail the ticket as a postcard. The Georgia Lottery will conduct a weekly drawing from all entries received that week. Weekly drawings will be broadcast each Friday as a part of the Cash 3 evening drawings.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
