ATLANTA – A HOPE graduate is celebrating a $5,000 Georgia Lottery win. Daisy Reynolds of Jasper was randomly selected in the Georgia’s Millionaire Club weekly drawing held March 16. She claimed her prize Tuesday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.
"My stepson watched the drawing and called us with the news," Reynolds explained. "We thought he was crazy. I told him he must have confused me with someone else."
Reynolds, 47, works as a customer service representative. She and her husband, Ralph Reynolds, have a total of five children. According to Reynolds, she plans to pay bills and take a vacation with her winnings.
"We'll go either to the mountains or the ocean. Maybe we'll go to the mountains on the way to the ocean," she said laughing.
Reynolds, who attended Appalachian Technical College in Jasper, said that her son and daughter also benefited from lottery-funded HOPE.
"That's one of the reasons we keep playing the Georgia Lottery. My HOPE Scholarship helped me get a better job, and it's the reason my children were able to attend college," she shared. "HOPE was very, very important to my family."
Georgia's Millionaire Club weekly drawings are held in conjunction with the instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club. Each weekly Georgia's Millionaire Club winner will receive $5,000 and become a finalist in the Extra Chance $10 Million Grand Prize Drawing.
Players can mail in a non-winning Georgia's $500 Million Club ticket to enter the Georgia's Millionaire Club drawings. Complete the back of the ticket, add a stamp, and mail the ticket as a postcard. The Georgia Lottery will conduct a weekly drawing from all entries received that week. Weekly drawings will be broadcast each Friday as a part of the Cash 3 evening drawings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
