ATLANTA – Winning is sweet, according to a Marietta bakery cashier. Matilde Salazar, 47, won $1,000 a week for life with a free Win for Life ticket she received in the Georgia Lottery’s Spring Fever promotion.
With the Spring Fever promotion, lottery players could get a free Win for Life Quik Pik ticket with the purchase of five Mega Millions or five Fantasy 5 plays.
Salazar received her lucky ticket at Atlanta Check Cashers #0038, 1167 Powder Springs Road in Marietta. Winning numbers from the March 24 Win for Life drawing were: 01-03-08-12-16-38 and the Free Ball was 11.
She checked her numbers while at work and discovered she’d won.
“I started calling everyone,” she said. “I was so excited.”
Salazar and her husband, Juan, have six adult sons and 16 grandchildren. The couple will complete repair projects around the house. They also plan to travel to Mexico, Miami and California on vacation.
With plans to celebrate her birthday on April 6, Salazar considers her win to be an early birthday gift.
“I’m very happy,” she said. “This win will make life even more exciting.”
Win for Life is a multi-state game played in Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky. As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Win for Life will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
