Georgia Lottery players grab big bucks in Millionaire Raffle launch event

Sunday, April 15, 2007

ATLANTA – Friday the 13th was a lucky day as the Georgia Lottery Corporation celebrated the return of Millionaire Raffle during halftime of the Atlanta Hawks game at Philips Arena. Four lucky contestants in four Cash Cubes had 30 seconds to grab and keep up to $10,000 with an additional $5,000 for the winner.

Eric Butterfield of Decatur was the grand prize winner. He grabbed 22 bills worth $2,200 and also won the $5,000 grand prize, taking home $7,200.

According to Butterfield, a 40-year-old marketing manager, he will use his winnings to complete some home improvements.

“There are several concerts coming up this summer that I wanted to attend, and now I’m going to all of those,” he said. “And then, of course, I’m going to do something special for my wife.”

Other participants included: Mark Peterson, a 38-year-old Snellville resident, who won $1,700; Ann Sauls, a 60-year-old resident of Tucker, who won $1,500; and Rhonda Hines, a 44-year-old Decatur resident, who won $1,200.

Millionaire Raffle is a limited-time game that gives Georgia Lottery players their best chance ever to win $1 million. A total of 500,000 tickets will be printed and sold in numeric order until they are sold out. Millionaire Raffle tickets went on sale April 15, 2007. Tickets cost $20 each.

A computerized drawing on June 30, 2007, will randomly select Millionaire Raffle winners. Four tickets will win $1 million each, paid in a lump sum; five tickets will win $100,000 each; and 500 tickets will win $1,000 each.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
