ATLANTA – A contractor working in the Valdosta area is enjoying a “lotto” Southern hospitality. Hubert Scarborough, 63, won $100,000 playing the instant game Georgia Lottery Black.
Scarborough purchased and scratched his lucky ticket at Georgia Florida Fuel Center, 7215 Lakes Blvd., Lake Park. Store employees and patrons celebrated his win.
“They got excited, too,” he said. “Everyone in the store did.”
A resident of Livingston, Texas, Scarborough said he’s been working at a paper mill facility in the Valdosta area for 15 months.
He plans to pay bills and hopes to retire early with his $100,000 windfall.
“I’m not even going to own a clock,” he said. “I’m going to do a lot of fishing and spend a lot of my time on the lake.”
Georgia Lottery Black is an instant game with $1 million top prizes.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.3 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
