ATLANTA – Ronnie Deli was cooking breakfast Sunday (4/4) morning when her husband, Sam, served up a heaping of great news. Mr. Deli correctly selected the numbers for Saturday’s (4/3) Lotto South drawing and won the $19 million jackpot. He chose the annuity payment option and will receive his winnings in 30 annual installments.
“It’s exciting to have another winning Lotto South jackpot ticket sold in Georgia,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. “Just as exciting is knowing how much Georgia’s students are gaining through the educational programs we fund.”
Mr. Deli learned of his great luck when he called the Georgia Lottery Corporation’s Player Information Hotline on Sunday (4/4) morning. “I was in total shock,” says Mr. Deli. “So I waited 10 minutes and called again.”
Mr. Deli’s wife, Ronnie, was still asleep so he waited until she was awake to share the good news. While Mrs. Deli was cooking breakfast, Mr. Deli entered the kitchen and announced, “I have something to tell you.”
“I had this funny feeling,” says Mrs. Deli. “It was like being told that we held the golden ticket for Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.”
Mr. Deli, 54, and Mrs. Deli, a 49-year-old who works in banking, both plan to retire now that they’re multimillionaires. They are still deciding how to spend their winnings but options include new vehicles and a boat.
They also plan to help their children further their educations. Both of their children, Vanessa, 27, and Adam, 24, were HOPE scholars.
“One of the reasons we support the Georgia Lottery by playing its games is because we know the dollars go to a good cause – education,” says Mrs. Deli.
The Delis have already purchased airline tickets to visit their children and personally inform them of their Lotto South jackpot win.
The winning numbers for Saturday’s Lotto South drawing were: 1-16-30-41-47-49. The lucky Quik Pik ticket was purchased at Quiktrip #0769, located at 1075 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Suwanee.
Retailers are also winners with the retailer incentive bonus. Any Georgia Lottery retailer who sells a winning Lotto South jackpot ticket can earn the $25,000 retailer incentive bonus. If more than one winning jackpot ticket is sold in Georgia, the retailers selling the winning tickets will share the $25,000 retailer incentive bonus. Quiktrip will receive a $25,000 retailer incentive bonus.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Lotto South sales will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
