ATLANTA – With $3 million, Joyce Hendrix can be a beachgoer and have fun in the sun with a Georgia Lottery win. That’s the Augusta grandmother’s intention since winning a mammoth prize playing the new Super Millions instant game.
“I’m an old country girl, so I won’t go on an extravagant spending spree,” said Hendrix, 55. “Maybe I’ll spend a week at the beach.”
Smart Grocery, 3221 Wrightsboro Road in Augusta, sold the lucky ticket.
“I had played a few times since it came out and was popping two $50s and one $100,” she said. “When I scratched $3 million, I almost passed out in the doorway.”
Hendrix is a mother of two adult daughters and is a grandmother to four.
Super Millions is a new Georgia Lottery instant game loaded with cash prizes and top prizes of up to $1 million, $2 million, $3 million, $4 million and $5 million. Players can enter non-winning tickets for a chance to win $1 million.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.3 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
