ATLANTA – You don’t have to be a dad to celebrate Father’s Day this year. Betty Hicks, who has four children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, played Happy Father’s Day and won the instant game’s $40,000 top prize. According to Mrs. Hicks, 69, she purchased the Happy Father’s Day ticket because she enjoys holiday-themed Georgia Lottery instant games. She scratched the ticket in her kitchen and discovered that she was a top prize winner. “I started hollering,” she says. “I’m just happy.” Mrs. Hicks, who enjoys fishing and lives on a lake, will use a portion of her winnings to repair her dock. She will share the remainder with her family. The lucky ticket was purchased at Corner Store, located on Rte. 1 in Georgetown. Mrs. Hicks, a recent resident of Georgetown, currently lives in Fort Gaines. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
