ATLANTA – The Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) today announced its highest ever first quarter sales and proceeds to education. GLC sales for the first quarter of fiscal year 2007 totaled $744,472,094 – more than $6.8 million ahead of the first quarter record set in fiscal year 2006.

The GLC will transfer its fiscal year 2007 first quarter profits to the State Treasury's Lottery for Education Account in the amount of $193,256,000 – more than $4.6 million ahead of the first quarter record established in fiscal year 2006. This is the largest first quarter transfer in the history of the GLC, bringing the total raised for educational programs in the state of Georgia to more than $8.6 BILLION since the lottery's inception in 1993.

"The fiscal year is off to a strong start," said GLC President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. "We will continue to provide our players with fun and innovative games and promotions as a source of entertainment to fulfill our mission of maximizing dollars for HOPE and Pre-K."

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
