Retired Airline Worker Soars with $261,000 Fantasy 5 Prize

Thursday, February 10, 2005

ATLANTA - A retired airline worker from Ellijay is flying high as a Fantasy 5 top prize winner. Jerry Cummings, 63, won $261,914 as one of two players to match all five numbers in the Feb. 8 Fantasy 5 drawing.

Mr. Cummings says that he was asleep when his wife, Barbara, woke him up and said, "I think we won Fantasy 5!"

According to Mrs. Cummings, 62, she watched the drawing, wrote down the winning numbers, and checked the ticket. "I kept thinking all of the numbers were there," she says. "I couldn't believe it."

Mr. and Mrs. Cummings plan to save their winnings to enhance their retirement nest egg. They also want to do some traveling. Mr. Cummings is a retired Delta Air Lines quality control inspection foreman, and Mrs. Cummings is a retired sixth-grade teacher.

The Cupboard #0003, located at 731 First Ave. in East Ellijay, sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket. The second top prize ticket for the Feb. 8 Fantasy 5 drawing was sold in Norcross.

Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold, the retailers selling the top prize winning tickets will share the retailer incentive bonus. The Cupboard will receive a retailer incentive bonus of $6,000.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs.
