ATLANTA – One Gilmer County man’s dream of grabbing a spot at the Super Bowl may come true courtesy of a quarter-million dollar prize from the Georgia Lottery. Jerry Stanley of East Ellijay won a $250,000 top prize playing the football-themed Atlanta Falcons Cash Blowout instant game.
He claimed his prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.
Stanley, 48, hopes that he can watch the Atlanta Falcons – his favorite football team – play in the Super Bowl.
“I watch them, and I’m definitely a fan of the Atlanta Falcons. They’re 6-0,” the lucky winner exclaimed. “They’re doing well this year. I’m going to buy tickets to the Super Bowl, especially if they go.”
Stanley, who is a heavy equipment operator, has two children, ages 23 and 13.
He also has plans to pay off his parents’ bills.
Maddox Circle BP, located at 11 Maddox Circle in East Ellijay, sold the lucky ticket.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
