Fulton Co. school bus driver gets green light on $400K

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

ATLANTA – Pamela Hampton of Ellenwood is excited over winning a hefty prize from the Georgia Lottery. Hampton, a Pre-Kindergarten school bus driver in Fulton County, has won a $400,000 top prize playing the instant game 20X The Money.

Hampton, 59, claimed her prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

“I bought it while on my lunch break,” she explained. “I was in the store when I scratched it.”

Chevron Food Mart, 2050 Sylvan Road S.W. in Atlanta, sold the winning ticket.

“I had to focus my eyes. I couldn’t believe it,” the grandmother of four said. “The clerk and I both started jumping up and down.”

Hampton, who has two children with her husband, Larry, intends to pay off bills with the windfall.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
