ATLANTA – A wife and mother of two in Wilcox County indulged in a $1 million Georgia Lottery prize for Mother’s Day. Richard Padgett of Abbeville presented his wife, Sherry, with the instant ticket Georgia Lottery’s 20th Anniversary Extravaganza, where she scratched off a $1 million top prize.
“I just bought it for my wife as a Mother’s Day gift,” said Padgett, 37. “She scratched it Sunday morning.”
The high-spirited husband claimed the $1 million prize on behalf of his wife Monday at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Tifton.
“We didn’t know what to think,” he said. “We cried.”
Married 16 years, the Padgetts have two teenagers, 13 and 15 years old.
“It was quite a day,” said Padgett, a maintenance mechanic. “What an exciting day!”
The Station/Church’s Chicken, 277 Ocilla Highway in Fitzgerald, sold the winning ticket.
