ATLANTA – A Georgia Lottery prize has turned up to the delight of one bailiff. Charlotte Battle of Jackson won a $177,000 top prize playing the instant game 7 Times Lucky.
“I bought two tickets, and the first one I scratched was the winner,” said Battle, 72. “I was in my car when I scratched it.”
Chevron Food Mart, 717 E. Third St. in Jackson, sold the winning ticket.
“I didn’t really have a reaction initially,” the lucky winner shared. “Now I can breathe.”
Battle, who has three children, has no plans at the moment for her windfall.
“This is something I never expected,” she said.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
