Sunny-side up: Jackson server flips with $243K Fantasy 5 prize

Thursday, May 22, 2014

ATLANTA – A restaurant server in Jackson was served an “eggscellent” prize from the Georgia Lottery. Melanie Burnette, 58, is one of three winners each to win $243,518 from matching all five numbers drawn from the May 17 Fantasy 5 drawing.

Burnette claimed her prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Macon.

Winning numbers from the May 17 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 2-6-11-16-20.

Falls View Market, 4724 High Falls Road in Jackson, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket. Additional tickets with the jackpot prize were sold in Cairo and Valdosta.

The lucky winner was “in a state of shock” when she discovered she’d won while at the store.

“I gave it to the lady. She started screaming and hollering at me, ‘You won! You won,’” Burnette recalled. “I just stood there fanning myself. I was burning up.”

With adult children and grandchildren with her husband, Ronnie, Burnette is undecided on plans for her winnings.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
