ATLANTA – William Shores went online to check the winning Fantasy 5 numbers for the August 9 drawing and found himself sitting in front of the computer in a state of disbelief. Mr. Shores was holding the top prize winning ticket worth $269,565.
The 45-year-old salesman used a combination of the birthdays of various family members to pick his numbers. The winning numbers for the August 9 drawing were: 8-12-14-18-29.
Mr. Shores found out that he was the top prize winner when he checked the Georgia Lottery Web site. “I looked at the numbers and thought that maybe I’d won, so I went and got my ticket out of my wallet,” Mr. Shores described.
The Birmingham, Ala. resident has not decided what he will do with his winnings. However, he does feel that the prize will open up new opportunities for him, his wife, Tina, and their two children, William and Jennifer.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shell Food Mart, located at 5652 Fairburn Rd. in Douglasville.
Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold, the retailers selling the top prize winning tickets will share the bonus. Shell Food Mart will receive a retailer incentive bonus of $10,000.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs.
