ATLANTA – As a truck driver, Carmen Wilson is accustomed to hauling steel. As one of two top prize winners in the March 23 Fantasy 5 drawing, Mr. Wilson is hauling $348,088. Mr. Wilson, a 56-year-old resident of Palmetto, rises early for work. He was drinking a cup of coffee when he checked his Fantasy 5 ticket by calling the Georgia Lottery Player Information Hotline. Although it was 4 a.m., Mr. Wilson woke up his wife, Jan, saying, “We won Fantasy 5!” According to Mrs. Wilson, she jumped out of bed to celebrate with her husband. “I was wide awake!” she exclaims. “We high-fived and hugged.” The Wilsons made several pre-dawn telephone calls to share the news with family members. “Nobody was upset. They know we’ll share,” says Mrs. Wilson. In addition to sharing with their three children and six grandchildren, the Wilsons plan to pay bills and invest. They are considering a camper for family fishing trips. Before claiming their prize at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta, Mr. Wilson photographed the lucky ticket. “We’re going to have it enlarged and framed,” he states. The winning numbers for the Fantasy 5 drawing on March 23 were: 5-13-17-20-28. Mr. Wilson randomly selected the lucky combination using family birthdays. Palmetto Package store, located at 510 Center St. in Palmetto, sold the winning ticket. The second top prize ticket for the March 23 Fantasy 5 drawing was purchased in Winder. Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold, the retailers selling the top prize winning tickets will share the bonus. Palmetto Package Store will receive a retailer incentive bonus of $7,000. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
