ATLANTA – Allan Moore of Hephzibah played $100 Million Cash Spectacular and won the Georgia Lottery instant game’s $1 million top prize. As a Shriner, Mr. Moore has dedicated his life to helping others. As a new millionaire, he is excited to make even greater contributions to worthy causes.
“I’ll be doing a lot of charity work,” says Mr. Moore, who serves as Illustrious Potentate of Stolkin Temple No. 22 in Augusta.
While claiming his prize at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta on Friday morning, Mr. Moore made a list to keep up with all of his good deeds for the future. Included on the list were hundreds of food baskets for the hungry and wheelchairs for the needy. As a Shriner clown, who often performs at parades and hospitals, Mr. Moore also plans to sponsor a community youth group.
After putting others first, Mr. Moore says that he will eventually pay off his home and buy a new car.
Mr. Moore, 50, retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant first class. He and his wife, Paula, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in April. The Moores have three daughters.
When Mr. Moore scratched the ticket and realized that he won $1 million, he called his wife, who was traveling with one of their daughters.
“I was calm,” Mr. Moore says. “They were hollering and screaming more than I was.”
Mr. Moore purchased his ticket at Circle J, located at 3020 Tobacco Rd. in Hephzibah.
$100 Million Cash Spectacular has 10 $1 million top prizes and the highest payout percentage in Georgia Lottery history. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
