ATLANTA – Win for Life players won big in Georgia during the game’s inaugural week. Five players won the new game’s second prize of $1,000 A WEEK FOR A YEAR and 136,371 other players won $713,532 with prizes ranging from $2 to $600. “It’s so exciting to see players having so much fun with Win for Life in its first week,” said Georgia Lottery Corporation President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. “Georgia’s HOPE and Pre-K students are benefiting greatly every time you play Win for Life or any other Georgia Lottery game.” In Win for Life’s first drawing on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, three players won $1,000 a week for a year. Those winning tickets were purchased in Doerun, West Point and Woodland. Two players won $1,000 a week for a year in the Win for Life drawing on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Those tickets were purchased in Chamblee and Stone Mountain. Win for Life is a fun new game that offers a lifetime of security. It’s an exciting game with lower odds, more winners, and the chance to win a top prize of $1,000 A WEEK FOR LIFE. With Win for Life, six numbers are randomly selected from a set of numbers 1 to 42. Additionally, a seventh “Free Ball” number is selected from the remaining balls after the first six are selected. Players can use the “Free Ball” to increase lower-tier prizes. Win for Life tickets went on sale beginning Sunday, February 26, 2006. The first Win for Life drawing was held on Wednesday, March 1, 2006. Win for Life drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 11:00 p.m. Each Win for Life ticket costs $1. Win for Life players select any six numbers from 1 to 42 for each desired Win for Life play or select the Quik Pik option. The lottery draws six winning numbers followed by one “Free Ball” number from the same set of 42 balls. There is no “Free Ball” indicated on your ticket. If you match the six winning numbers, you win $1,000 a week for life. Matching the “Free Ball” number with any of your numbers may increase prize amounts. For example, matching five of six winning numbers wins $600; however, matching five of six winning numbers plus the “Free Ball” wins $1,000 a week for a year ($52,000). There are eight ways to win a prize playing Win for Life. In addition to the $1,000 a week for life top prize, Win for Life offers a great second prize of $1,000 a week for a year. The $1,000 a week for life top prize is guaranteed for a minimum of 10 years. Therefore, if a winner passes away within 10 years of winning, the remaining annuity payments would be transferable to the winner’s estate. Overall odds of winning any Win for Life prize are 1 in 21. Odds of winning the top prize are approximately 1 in 5.2 million. Win for Life is a multi-state game played in Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky. As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Win for Life will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program. Play Responsibly – It’s All About Fun!
