ATLANTA – A Fortson U.S. Army human resources assistant is celebrating a $500,000 top prize win playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Jumbo Jumbo Bucks.
Rubina Gray purchased the winning ticket at Michelle’s Mini Market, 2222 Ga. Highway 219, Fortson.
Gray, 45, said she plans to pay off bills.
“The experience doesn’t feel real,” she said. “I couldn’t sleep that first night after winning.”
Gray and her husband, Pat, have two children, one of whom was a recipient of a lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship.
“The fact that I’ve won is still slowly sinking in,” she said.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
