ATLANTA – The Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) today announced record-breaking sales and proceeds to education for the first half of fiscal year 2007, surpassing the previous records set in the first half of fiscal year 2006.
GLC sales for the first half of fiscal year 2007 totaled $1,560,556,968 – more than $28.4 million ahead of the first half of fiscal year 2006. GLC proceeds to education for the first half of fiscal year 2007 reached $400,515,000 – more than $4.1 million ahead of the same period in fiscal year 2006.
This makes the first six months of fiscal year 2007 the most successful start in GLC history and brings the total raised for educational programs in the state of Georgia to more than $8.8 BILLION since the lottery’s inception in 1993.
“Fiscal year 2007 is off to a strong start, which is great news for all Georgians,” said GLC President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. “Our mission is to maximize revenues for education in Georgia, and our success directly benefits Georgia’s students and their families.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
