ATLANTA – An Alpharetta insurance worker is underwriting a quarter-million dollar Georgia Lottery win. Jonathan Penn played the instant game $150,000,000 Slots of Luck and won a $250,000 top prize.
"I had a very good week at work last week and was feeling very lucky," Penn explained. "I thought, 'Hey, I should play the lottery.' "
Penn purchased his winning ticket at BP #01925, 10930 Jones Bridge Rd., Alpharetta. He scratched the ticket at home.
"I yelled, 'I hit the big one!' I sat there for about 10 minutes just in shock."
Penn, 38, works as the director of agent and broker affairs for a public insurance adjusting firm.
According to Penn, he will pay bills, buy a new car and donate some of his winnings to charitable causes.
"I'm also going to have a little bit of fun," he added.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
