ATLANTA – A resident of Oakman has collected a jumbo Georgia Lottery prize. William “Bill” Johnson Sr. played the instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic and won a $50,000 top prize.
BP Shop, located at 1090 Red Bud Rd. in Calhoun, sold the winning ticket. Johnson scratched his ticket in the store.
“I asked the clerk to look at the ticket, and he said, ‘You just won $50,000.’ I grabbed the counter. Then I had a cup of coffee and went home.”
Johnson, 61, has four children and five grandchildren. He plans to save, purchase a new vehicle and help his family.
“I have a 19-year-old son in college, so this will really help.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
