A pharmacy technician from Helena rang in the New Year Monday with $1 million from playing Millionaire Raffle.
Glenda Paulette Gatlin, 60, is one of four Millionaire Raffle winners who won in the statewide drawing held Dec. 31.
“Winning feels fine,” she said.
Gatlin purchased the winning ticket while buying gas at Flash Foods #0031, 805 W. Oak St., McRae. She forgot she bought the ticket and realized she had it shortly after midnight, Jan.1.
“I just looked at it because it seemed too good to be true,” she said. “Any time you win money it’s great.” With her winnings, Gatlin plans to invest and pay off bills for her and her family.
Millionaire Raffle was a limited-time game where 500,000 tickets were sold in numeric order. A computerized drawing randomly selected four $1 million prizes, five $100,000 prizes and 500 $1,000 prizes.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
