ATLANTA – A Milledgeville truck driver is hauling a million-dollar load into the New Year. Jerry Tompkins won one of four $1 million top prizes in the Georgia Lottery game Millionaire Raffle Dec. 31.
"I still don't believe it," exclaimed Tompkins, 47.
Tompkins purchased the winning ticket at Jet Food Store #0076, 799 Ga. Highway 212, Milledgeville.
"I was just hoping to win $1,000," Tompkins said. "I feel very lucky."
Tompkins is married with two stepchildren and a granddaughter, who is a HOPE scholar.
According to Tompkins, he will save most of his winnings.
Millionaire Raffle was a limited-time game with 500,000 tickets sold in numeric order. A computerized drawing randomly selected four $1 million prizes, five $100,000 prizes and 500 $1,000 prizes.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
