ATLANTA – An Atlanta man is celebrating a quarter-million dollar lottery win. Freddie Burch, 50, played the Georgia Lottery instant game $150,000,000 Slots of Luck and won a $250,000 top prize.
Burch bought the ticket at A & B Discount, 1278 Custer Ave. in Atlanta. He was in his car when he scratched the ticket.
"I was shocked," he said. "It feels good, but winning still has to sink in."
Burch, who has a five-year-old daughter, said he has no immediate plans for his winnings but is thinking about taking a cruise.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
