ATLANTA – A college food service worker has cooked up a quarter-million dollar Georgia Lottery win. Gloria Perry of Decatur played the instant game Treasure Tree and won $250,000.
"I'm a lucky-type person," Perry said.
Perry purchased her top prize ticket Wednesday at Shield's Grocery, 145 Sycamore St., Decatur. She scratched the ticket at home and dashed off to share the exciting news with her co-workers.
"I couldn't get to work fast enough," said the Agnes Scott College employee. "I ran in there with that ticket like a maniac. Boy, they were screaming and hollering."
According to Perry, 59, she plans to share some of her winnings with her family.
"I have everything I want, but the security of having this makes me feel more comfortable," she shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
